<description>Website and business cards for Paul Asaro, local Champaign-Urbana stride pianist.

I directed all steps of the website creation process: content decisions, UX and wireframing, presentation, design and development. The goal was to create a functional and dynamic website with features like an audio player, blog, and tour schedule. It was also important that Paul could update it himself.

 About the Mark
The logo mark is dynamic and interactive. The main "spikey" graphic is composed of 8 mathematical characters, which can be manipulated in both symmetry and rotation. See fourth page in the style guide to see a small sampling of the variations possible.

Definitions: C8 symmetry stands for “8-fold cyclic symmetry”, meaning that each character is being radially rotated from a center point (occurring at every multiple of 45 degrees). D4 symmetry stands for “4-fold dihedral symmetry” which includes both rotations and reflections, which gives the characters a kaleidoscope effect.

<description>This print piece was requested by Wolfram's HR department, to hand out during recruitment events and job fairs. The booklet captures the culture and vibrancy of Wolfram Research to prospective job-onlookers. I had complete free range on this project, including the format (a square 6x6" saddlestitch booklet). Illustration is original (with help of Mathematica!), photography by Megan Bearder.

This was the "attention grabber" video. We usually play something right before the show starts to give the audience a signal to find a seat! Animation and sound editing by my good friend Barry Abrams. Art direction and music selection by yours truly. Music is a Pete Rock remix of "Folsom Prison Blues" off of the Johhny Cash Remixed album.

PechaKucha Night, devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (Klein Dytham Architecture) was conceived in 2003 in Tokyo as a place for designers to meet, network, and show their work in public without having to rent a gallery or chat up a magazine editor. PechaKucha (pronounced peh-chak-cha), which is Japanese for “the sound of conversation,” is a forum in which creative work can be easily and informally shown. PechaKucha Night has tapped into a demand that has spread virally to over 290 cities globally. Champaign-Urbana was serendipitously the 217th city to be chosen, which only has proven that it was "meant to be" (Champaign-Urbana's area code is 217!).

Typically, PechaKucha Night hosts between 8 and 16 presenters. Presenters include many different types of creative people, including activists, animators, architects, artists, chefs, coolhunters, critics, designers, dreamers, entrepreneurs, fabricators, fashionistas, historians, makers, scientists, insiders and outsiders. The wide range of creatives allows for an extremely diverse audience and piques many different interests, keeping an energetic and inspirational vibe. Each presenter is allowed 20 images, each shown for 20 seconds—giving 6 minutes and 40 seconds of fame before the next presenter is up. This keeps presentations concise, the interest level up, and gives more people the chance to show.</description>

The Rhapsody is an airplane trim scheme for Horizon Hobby for their Eflite brand. This large bi-plane is meant for experienced users with a nostalgia for acrobatic performance airplanes of the 20s. The trim scheme is inspired in part by the bold trim scheme design of the red baron airplane. I tried to focus on the meaning of what it meant to be rhapsodic -- ecstatic, passionate, expressive, emotional. The word really appealed to my musician side. The typography was hand manipulated, starting from Metroscript
